Mission Statement:

 

To seek guidance and wisdom from all stakeholder groups for the betterment of our students and to make Surrey schools a shining example of what the public education system can be by promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.

 

Focus:

 

• Safer schools: development / promotion of programs for at-risk students and at-risk behaviours.

• More youth leadership opportunities: creating curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for students to demonstrate their leadership capacity and to promote positive role-models in the greater Surrey community

• Increased funding for Learning Support programs and special needs students to assist classroom teachers

• More parent, community and student engagement in making policies to meet the needs of our students and reflect community wishes

 

Volunteer Experience:

 

• Amazing Tutors Children’s Foundation, Co-Founder / Director

• S.M.S.  PAC, former Chairman

• The M.Y.C. (a local youth centre), former Vice-President

• Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, assisted seniors with their shopping needs

• Oakridge Seniors' Centre, volunteered with food preparation

• The LivingRoom Drop-In Activity Center, served food to the mentally ill

• W.E. Kinwig Elementary School PAC, member

 

Biography:

 

My vested interest and commitment to providing quality education to all children within the Surrey district stems from my background as an educator and as a resident of Surrey. After living in Surrey for nearly fifteen years, I recognize the important role education plays in our community. As a parent of two daughters currently enrolled in a local Surrey public school, my investment in the education system has never been stronger. Recognizing the need to provide quality education to local students at affordable prices, my wife Suzanne Yu and I founded Amazing Tutors ten years ago. We have helped thousands of students and continue to serve the local community.
